Biggest Influences in My Life

If I had to identify the biggest influences in my life, they would unquestionably be my mother and my sister. Each of them shaped who I am today in profound and lasting ways.

My mother was a woman with a strong personality and an even bigger heart. Despite enduring significant challenges in her personal relationships, she never allowed hardship to diminish her compassion or strength. I remember watching her continue to care for others even when she herself was struggling, and that example taught me resilience, empathy, and perseverance. Her life strongly influenced my commitment to education and career success, as I learned early on the importance of moving forward despite adversity. I carry many of her positive traits with me today—sometimes to the point where others may attempt to take advantage of my kindness. However, as the saying goes, knowledge is power, and through experience I have learned how to balance compassion with self-protection.

After the passing of our mother, my sister assumed an even more significant role in my life. She became a steady source of strength during a time of deep loss. I witnessed her endure what I can only describe as her lowest moments, yet our bond never weakened. There were times when I was seriously ill and hospitalized, and without hesitation, she would set everything aside to be there for me. Although we had our differences, we never let go of one another. Before her passing, we spoke by phone every day—sometimes more than once—which reinforced how deeply connected we remained despite life’s challenges.

I deeply miss both my mother and my sister. Their influence is woven into every part of who I am today. They shaped my values, my resilience, and my capacity to love deeply. I would not change any part of my past, because their presence—and their influence—will always remain a part of me.
