Today, September 20, 2025, marks 80 years since the birth of my beloved mother. Though she now celebrates in the spirit world with her parents, my sister, and my niece, I honor her here in the physical world with love, laughter, and gratitude.
My mother’s laughter was as big as her heart—radiant, contagious, and unforgettable. She was a magnet to people near and far, drawing them in with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. Her spirit touched countless lives, and her love was a gift she gave freely to her children, family, and friends.
One of my favorite memories still makes me smile. I had done something to make her mad—though I can’t remember what—and she sent me to my room, paddle in hand. Knowing what was coming, I put on ten pairs of underwear to soften the blow. When she called me downstairs and gave me a swat, I pretended to cry. She looked at me and said, “You’re not crying.” Then she told me to pull down my pants—and when she saw all the layers of underwear, she burst into laughter. That was my mother: even in discipline, she found joy.
Her laughter, her love, and her legacy live on in me and in all who knew her. Today, I celebrate her life, her spirit, and the immeasurable impact she had on this world.
Happy heavenly birthday, Mom. You are missed, you are loved, and you are remembered—always.
