Religion and Cults in Our Society
The video talks about religion and cults in our society as people become a slaves to one person or man. People in these groups or religions think they are doing good globally, but they are very dark.
Religion has been one of my controversial topics in how their belief system and ideology are not fact-based.
As a child growing up, going to church and socializing with others in the church group allowed me to see how corrupt and cult-like followers were because they believed in what was not real. To them, the followers, everything they thought was accurate. My religious experience was not a good one as I have seen how they brainwash children’s minds of so many wrongdoings. In my teenage years, I understood that most churches are cult following for the general public by contributing financially or volunteering your time in helping the church or cathedral grow, but not all churches are cults. Yet, many groups call themselves religious organizations, but they hold many dark secrets.
By believing in God, is this a redemptive way or process for people to feel justified in their actions and how they treat each other, or is it the last stage of the process? It seems the world is in a struggle between good and evil.
The fundamentalists believe in teaching the Bible or the book their religion believes in, but what is the truth? How do we know there are facts to back up what has been written over time? Many years ago, before we had the law of the land, I believe the Bible would have been the law to keep the people civil and keep law and order during those times.
In these institutions, secularism is about doing good and not discriminating against people or imposing judgment on your ideas. When a congregation listens to a pastor or a priest talk about a person doing good or being a good person, many religious actions speak differently from their teachings. It seems that women believe more in heaven and God than men do, according to a study “in figure 16.5 religious activity by gender, 2014 on page 688” (Conley D, 2021), showing a big gap between men and women in their belief in religion. I find the study very interesting that women believe in heaven and God, that we know very little or have not experienced this yet until we die. I can see how a pastor or priest who speaks to their audience has a large following of women. Looking back at David Koresh and Charles Manson, who were the cult leaders, most of their followers were women who either were killed or did killing for their leaders.
Sometimes, when listening to a speaker talk, it is not about what they are saying but the undetectable message they convey to their congregation. The example of Nxivm is a cult following. However, they still have a religious belief system on the surface, but the core of their belief tells a different story. Within their organization is a secret group called DOS, which means Dominus Obsequious Sororium, as a female empowerment group, is a master over enslaved women. They have a ritual to indoctrinate each individual. Over time, revolutionary social movements change people and the world. Speakers have gotten better at telling people what they want to hear.
An example is in 2016, when Trump prayed for the poor and vulnerable. Yet, this movement successfully got him elected as the U.S. President. When I went to Europe in 2018 and toured eight countries, Germany was one where the tour guides talked about Hitler. At that moment, I realized we in the U.S. were in a terrible position. The parallel between Trump and Hitler was almost the same. After George Floyd’s death, there had to be a social movement that catalyzed BLM’s movement worldwide. Then, our country faced a riot in the U.S. capital on January 6th, where many leaders played a role in gaslighting people. We needed this for changes as the cycle has kept repeating itself.
Looking back over the last few years has taught us that our country is so divided between religion, race, and our social environment that we are smaller groups within a large world. I have heard some people say, “if” there is a God, why would they allow this to happen? We all go to the same place once we die, wherever that may be!
