Module 1 Discussion: Introductions; Bailments; Lost, Misplaced, and Abandoned Property; Intellectual Property
Greetings! I am Greg. I am in my final year as a student in the paralegal study program at Ivy Tech, working towards my associate degree. My objective is to continue my education in law and seek a career as a paralegal concentrating on corporate or international law. Although fortunate to focus on my academic studies, I seek opportunities to advance my experience working with a law firm or within a company’s legal department.
I have mixed emotions as I get near the end of my studies here at Ivy Tech. On the other hand, it is bittersweet to reach this goal. I am eager for the next phase of my education and to embark on a new professional journey in the legal field. I am ready to apply the knowledge and skills I have obtained in learning to grow within the legal field. Once completing my studies, I intend to relocate to a larger city.
My deep obsession with domestic and international travel will allow me to indulge in mixed cultures and increase my worldview. The exposure to different cultures has enhanced my understanding of social and cultural surroundings. Importantly, I am committed to giving back to the community, and I actively volunteer during my free time, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy.
My Three topics:
C. Provide an example where you were the bailee and identify the type of bailment and the duty owed. (Your example cannot be the same as those provided in the materials.): I was the owner of an office building property that needed to lease office space. In a bailment relationship, one party (the bailor) entrusts property to another party (the bailee) for temporary use within the terms of a contract. The bailor maintains property ownership but grants the bailee the right to use it. The bailee is responsible for caring for the property, covering any associated costs, and fulfilling the obligations outlined in the agreement between the bailor and the bailee.
E. Explain what a patent is and what it protects. (2-4 sentences): A patent protects the invention, granting the inventor or inventors exclusive rights to their creation. By obtaining a patent, individuals or groups can prevent others from using their invention without permission, thereby maintaining control over its use by third parties or companies.
F. Explain what a copyright is and what it protects. (2-4 sentences): Artists that create music, poetry, or any other creative work, their authorship is protected by copyright law, which the government grants to prevent unauthorized use. Copyright safeguards an artist’s original work for their lifetime plus an additional seventy years after passing.
