What do you think?  In today’s society, most people believe they are owed something when they know they are doing something wrong or breaking the law.  Looking over the years from the ’70s versus today’s society, it is about me first, even if they walk over people to get there.  Our culture has changed where there is no respect for each other or even ourselves.  However, lack of trust has affected the way we treat each other.  It is easy to blame and find fault in others when we make mistakes instead of taking ownership.

Is our legal system broken?  Why or Why not?  Yes, our legal system is failing because our culture has changed.  It is not the law itself that’s broken but the people who regulate and enforce the law and citizens who know how to challenge it.  These individuals know they are violating the laws yet, at the same time, bring a civil lawsuit to justify their wrongdoing.  The unbelievable part of these cases is that some attorneys who represent frivolous lawsuits will settle out of court.  Because of this type of lawsuit, it is inexpensive for the defendant to pay, and the plaintiff will receive their awarded amount.

Over the last few years, we have seen the difference between the wealthy and everyday citizens in civil or criminal cases.  Nevertheless, most citizens do not trust judges or law enforcement who represent or uphold our laws because of broken boundaries.

My opinion can be skewed without all the facts to view our legal system from one side as a citizen, not working in the legal field or from the criminal perspective.

Regardless, how would you make it better?  Reading the law can be difficult for most people to understand how it is written, and people see it as a foreign language.  To improve our legal system, we need to look at attorneys and judges that enforce the laws based on each case and follow the U.S. Constitution.  We need legislators to revise or create new laws and statutes—using language that is easy for the people to comprehend and better understand.  Another way to make our legal system better is to build trust between citizens and law officials but hold people accountable for their actions.
