A Basic History of American Indians, Part II, and Group One Presents American Indian Artifacts

Wounded Knee 1890-1973

  • Political and Military History. Reform movements Collection for Wounded Knee 1890-1973.
  • The American Indian Movement Started in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1968. This revolution attraction by the FBI and CIA to destroy the movement. The censorship started early 1970s “…confrontation that follow in February, 1973…” The leader Russell Means organized a small group to protest for the community of Wounded Knee in South Dakota. The government’s unethical administration felt threatened, so the FBI was called to break up the group. Because of the protest, two people were killed during the standoff that lasted for 71 days. However, this drew the attention of many people worldwide to fight for the rights of the “plight of American Indians.” Although the government later brought charges against the leaders in Minnesota court, they were acquitted.
  • The patch was used for the American Indian Movement in 1890, 1973, and 1990 Remember Wounded Knee.
