Metal Wall

Why is there controversy about the wall on the US Southern Border? Since President Trump has taken office, there have been real issues towards and against the infamous wall, and U.S. border with immigrants crossing. Lepor states there are issues by not upholding the U.S. National Security (Lepor 2018). It seems that there is some manufacturing of facts, including creating National Security issues within our own country.

The author Rovvy (Robert) Lepor, is a contributing writer for the website American Thinker and wrote an article named President Trump’s Wall of Compassion. After researching Lepor, his education and background showed that he received a B.A. in Political Science and an M.B.A. in Business, focusing his career around consulting, working in 2015/2016, providing strategic political consulting for the G.O.P. presidential campaign.

Reading the actual article that Lepor had written on Nov. 24, 2018, opened many questions concerning his position about the wall, immigrants, asylum, and the controversy of the information that is beguiling to some of the American people.  Lepor’s stand on these issues makes numerous Americans feel isolated and prevents other cultures from wanting to come to the U.S.A. because they are considered bad people. His argument is about immigrants that are crossing the U.S. border illegally, but not all immigrants are illegal, legitimately seeking asylum while others are following required U.S. protocols to immigrate.  Immigrants crossing the border illegally does not constitute asylum in the U.S., only going through the proper channels is considered legal.  The concern that most American people have is with the handling of policy regarding our immigration laws from The Trump Administration. His office decided to order our Military to the Southern border for protection because migrants are encroaching in caravans. The author Lepor’s opinion in “President Trump’s Wall of Compassion” supports President Trump and his policies. Lepor expressed his contradictory viewpoints of using compassion out of concern for immigrants’ journey to keep them protected, harmless, an asset, and stating that they are such disorderly offenders that border patrol must use razor wire against immigrants (Lepor, 2018). The tone implies that the illegals are going to take over the US Southern border by caravan. The U.S. Southern border could be facing riots with the perilous act of infiltrating by migrants. The support as the “Darien Gap, 10,000 migrants” (Lepor 2018) to arrive and “3,000 migrants” (Lepor 2018) plan to force their way into the border is poorly supported.  Lepor suggests that as the Department of Homeland Security has authenticated the strength of such an act facing our National Security, the U.S. needs to defend its citizens and the borders. The author is suggesting that President Trump should receive accolades for defending the southern border, building the wall, and safeguarding U.S. National Security.  By eliminating illegal immigrants to keep out “an estimated 500 criminals, and some of whom are gang members.” (Lepor 2018)

Lepor starts with how the “Liberal media and Liberal commentators” (Lepor 2018) are pessimistic toward President Trump’s protecting the U.S. by the invasion of our Southern border from illegal migrants, by using this tone to segregate specific populations. The author suggests that President Trump does have empathy and thoughtfulness towards the migrants who are enduring the perilous journey (Lepor 2018).  He also states that the “liberal media and liberal commentators” have not supported President Trump because they have obscured and “myopic views” regarding his policies and criticizing the tactics he used handling the immigrants and the US Southern border (Lepor, 2018). The logic seems disorderly in the arrangement, and the flow could be more concise. Some passages contradict themselves, claiming President Trump is for the migrants and willing to help, others claiming that he is against the migrants. Many people are opposing the current administration, but President Trump supporters are saying his actions are justified according to Lepor article.

Response

Lepor is suggesting that “It is high time President Trump receives the wall-to-wall commendation and support that he deserves for securing the border and the border wall.” (Lepor 2018) Why is the “Wall of Compassion” so controversial? Is there compassionate about the wall or does the wall itself have a reverse effect with connotation.  Lepor, in his article, mentions the Darien Gap but never addressed the distances from the U.S. border. The area is Located between Colombia and Panama. For the traveler, the journey can be most perilous and risking their lives.  Because they will have to cross seven to eight borders to reach the U.S.  Reaching the Darien Gap, Adam from CBS interviewed the immigrants traveling from Iran, Haiti, Sri Lanka, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Eritrea (narrated by Adam on CBS).

Most immigrants who are coming through the border are entering the port crossing. The Law clearly states that the only way to receive asylum is by going through the port of entry. The person who is seeking asylum can fall under one of the categories a.) abused by their government b.) Burden of proof c.) Sustaining Burden. (Cornell Law School)

“According to The Department of Homeland Security (D.H.S.) Secretary Kristjen Nielsen, as many as 10,000 are expected to arrive at the U.S. border, while the Mexican Consulate has reported on the presence of 8,200 migrants.” (Lepor 2018) The migrants are going to stampede our southern border. Researching, “More than 10,000 migrants request visas as caravan hits Mexico southern border according to (The Washington Post 2019)”. “Honduran migrants who have decided to seek the Mexican humanitarian card wait on the bridge that crosses the river Suchiate to enter Mexican territory through the city of Hidalgo, Mexico, on Jan. 21, 2019,” this is where DHS was getting their source. (Luis Villalobos/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock 2019) Department Homeland Security is making misleading statements to the American.

Conclusion

“President Trump’s Wall of Compassion” and the controversy surrounding his immigration reform, defending the U.S Southern border and the U.S. National Security, has been questionable. Some key points that are contradictory are the deadly journey, misguided guest, ill-informed and myopic views on the other hand “liberal media or liberal commentators” (lepor 2018), migrants and criminals to name a few. Throughout Lepor’s article there were a lot of contradictory facts used and still the wall is an issue.
