“Perspective on Life”
Today, I visited with my client, who lived at the assisted living home, and another resident named,” Mary approached me.” At the table, I was listening intensely to Mary’s life story as a young girl she was sharing. I could tell by her body language she was getting very emotional as a few tears flowed down her cheeks. Then I noticed she was wearing a tiny handbag over her shoulders across her chest. Mary wanted to show me something she had in her bag. Her arms and hands shook as she pulled everything out to lay on the table. There was a pen, papers that looked like an old menu, loose tissues, and several zip-lock baggies. One had an old handmade necklace. Mary put on the necklace and was so proud to display it so that someone could say how beautiful it looked on her. It wasn’t about the “necklace,” how old or new. We’re still sitting at the table, and then,” I realized that everything she owned, her worldly procession, is in that little handbag that represents her life now!” That puts a perspective on life!
